Who are the Scalabrinians?
The Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of St Charles Borromeo – Scalabrinians was founded by Blessed John Baptist Scalabrini in Piacenza on October 25, 1895, with the brother and sister Father Joseph and Mother Assunta Marchetti as Cofounders. Its mission is the evangelical, missionary service of migrants, especially the poorest and neediest. It spread initially in Brazil, and later to Europe (1936), North America (1941), and in recent decades to various countries in Latin America, Asia and Africa, so that today it is present in 26 countries, with 800 Sisters and 159 communities. Scalabrinians in India
The Missionary Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo – Scalabrinians pitched tent in Trivandrum , Kerala , South India in May 2005, consequent to the creation of the Archdiocesan Commission for the Pastoral Care of People on the Move. Since their inception, the focus of the Scalabrinian Sisters' mission has been to respond to the socio-pastoral challenges posed by the impact of mobility to people's lives in the Archdiocese. Vocations and Formation
The Scalabrinian Mission Community in Trivandrum engaged in yet another animated vocation campaign on January 25th, to invite young girls to discern their religious vocation with the MSCS Congregation. Many girls responded with interest especially from the Parishes in Poonthura, Vizhinjam and Pullavilla.
Ministry to the Migrants
We are missionary migrants in the Latin Archdiocese of Trivandrum, Kerala, India. We work in collaboration with the local Church in laying the foundation for a pastoral ministry that is essential yet remote to the native ecclesial community especially the clergy. Community Prayer in Malayalam
The Scalabrini Mission community translated the MSCS Community prayers to Malayalam. They published the translated prayers in booklet form which also included quotes from the Founder and co-Founders.
